Q: How does Russian River Dog Walkers & Pet Sitters maintain safety?
A personal note from Kevin:
I spent over a decade working and volunteering in Emergency Management — planning for, responding to, and studying disasters with a focus on risk reduction. While we can never eliminate all risk, we can take thoughtful steps to minimize it. I've built safety into every layer of this business, from how we hire to how we train and operate every day.
A: Safety is our top priority — for your pet, your home, and our team. Here’s how we provide peace of mind:
✅ Trained & Trusted Caregivers:
Every team member is personally selected through connections in the local dog community — not from job ads. They are people I’ve come to trust through real relationships. Our staff members typically have experience in pet care, animal training, or responsible breeding, and most have well-behaved, well-socialized dogs of their own.
New team members begin with limited responsibilities and earn more over time as they demonstrate consistency, responsibility, and sound judgment. As a small team, everyone has multiple roles and a personal stake in the success of the company — and we always err on the side of caution when it comes to safety.
🐾 Complimentary Meet & Greets:
We require an in-person meet and greet before accepting a new client. During this meeting, we assess your pet’s behavior and confirm they’re up to date on core vaccinations. We only move forward if the caregiver, client, and pet all feel like a good match. If there's any uncertainty, we either suggest a trial period or refer you to another option. We believe in quality over quantity.
📍 GPS-Tracked Walks & High Staff-to-Pet Ratio:
You’ll never see us walking more than three dogs at once — and that’s rare. Smaller groups mean we can give each pet the attention they deserve, better monitor body language for signs of stress, and reduce the risk of illness or injury. Walks are GPS-tracked, and we provide real-time updates with photos and notes so you stay connected to your pet’s experience.
💊 Emergency Preparedness & Monthly Training:
Our team meets in person at least once a month to review safety protocols and practice a hands-on pet first aid skill. Each caregiver carries a pet first aid kit, and we maintain pet insurance in case veterinary care is needed while your pet is in our care.
We also plan for regional emergencies — including wildfires, heatwaves, flooding, and power outages. We’ve created a robust business continuity plan, which includes cross-coverage between staff members to ensure we can respond quickly and calmly if normal operations are disrupted.
Kevin Specifically- Having been involved in dozens of real-world disasters I have enough water, pet food, medical supplies, and other resources at my house for up to two weeks without outside support if necessary and each staff member maintains a minimum 3 day supply of supplies at each of their homes.
🏡 Respect for Your Home:
Whether we’re entering your hotel, rental, or private residence, we treat your space as if it were our own — locking doors securely, following your care instructions precisely, and ensuring your pets are always safely contained.
